After accepting a role assignment for a service, is there a way to connect the event to your personal calendar.

Yes, on your Dashboard if you tap on 'subscribe' it will give you the option to add Planning to google calendar, or Outlook/ical. Make sure an admin has set the time zone in settings before doing this.
