Individual Sign Up

Could we get a function where individual people could sign up for to participate as thier role for a service? For example, all of my users could see that we have an opening for a Scripture Reader for next Sunday and someone could indicate in Planner that they will serve in this role, then an admin would get a notification that the spot is filled?
